Today would have been my mom's 50th birthday and I so wish we could be celebrating today... miss you mom!!
Instead I thought I'd let you know about some of my favorite things to do with mom.
Of course Christmas is probably the #1, it was her favorite holiday and time of the year. She was amazing at making it such a special season... I don't ever remember her being a scrooge ha ha. She would decorate the whole house, she would set a date after thanksgiving for us to go pick a tree together and decorate it. She is the reason I am so particular about how the lights are hung on the tree, there is a method and everyone should follow it!! ;)
We opened our christmas gifts on christmas eve at midnight, so we would have dinner, play games, sing carols, read the christmas story and wait for midnight. It was always funny the years that she would forget to wrap a gift and we would be done opening presents and all of a sudden she would realize something was missing, she would run to her closet and come back with a store bag and say "oops! I forgot one."
We all like honey baked hams, so for christmas or thanksgiving she would go get one, than stop by La Madeline to get some tomato basil soup, yum!!
Another favorite spot to stop on our way home from running errands was Dairy Queen for a chocolate dipped cone.
Mom and I loved watching Hallmark movies... yes the ones my husband says are boring and sappy. She also loved watching wheel of fortune and most of the time she would figure out the phrase before the contestants.
She loved having people over for dinner, or lunch or even just to hang out. Our house was the hang out house for Beto and my friends, she always made everyone feel right at home.
Perhaps, the one thing she did the most, and I miss the most is she loved to give hugs... she gave the best hugs ever, and she gave them freely to anyone who needed or wanted one.
Love and miss you mom, and I could really use one of those amazing hugs right about now!
